This week, I have been in Iceland away from the hubbub of London life. I was in Iceland until yesterday and as it was a tour, I spent today sorting out post tour matters. Consequently, I was not in Westminster today. I cross Westminster Bridge weekly, I pass Portcullis House regularly and some of you will have been with me around the exit at Westminster Station beneath Big Ben. While I was not there, my spirit very much is and my heart goes out to those caught up in the proceedings. There was a marvellous report on PM on BBC Radio 4 this evening just before the six o’clock news. The essence of the report was that Parliament Square is in eery state but beyond Parliament Square, life is going on. Shops and restaurants are open for business. Londoners are hurrying home on the trains. The thing that we have been warned about for many years has finally happened but London is just keeping calm and carrying on.
